We were in desperate need of something to protect our tiny garden after my son’s gardening project ended tragically. A little caterpillar decided to help itself to his leaf lettuce and tiny bugs and spiders had made the pot and dirt their home. We wanted to start over but not before getting some netting to prevent that same incident. We are happy to be able to order these nets. They are huge but apparently can be cut to size? We haven’t figured out how to do that without ruining the design but for now we are able to protect multiple pitted plants at once. The hole spacing is perfect and no bugs can climb through. They definitely smell the plants and I’ve seen them sitting on the outside wishing they could get in. The instructions say you can water through the net but because we don’t have a legit set up, it doesn’t really work. It makes the net heavy and it lays on the plants causing unnecessary weight on the leaves of the plants. We’ve been able to successfully grow and take care of several plants without pests now.

We’ve been talking about getting mesh covers for quite some time and now is the time. We love to eat homegrown tomatoes and basil, but so do the grasshoppers. They got to it before harvest the last two years. Since we don’t use harmful chemicals, this was our solution.This mesh is fine enough to allow sunlight and rain through, but not those pesky grasshoppers.These covers can be cut to fit, which is a nice feature. There is also a handy zipper so we can harvest and then zip back up. Clever!If you’re looking for an alternate solution for keeping birds, bunnies and bugs from getting to your edible plants, I highly recommend these!

I put this pair of nets on my blueberry bushes this morning and am convinced I will finally get to harvest berries this year before the birds take them all. The double zipper allows for easier access during harvest, and the drawstring allows for a close fit around the trunk. The fine mesh prevents snakes from finding their way in as well. It was a fairly easy one-person job so long as you keep track of which is the drawstring versus zipper opening. The edges of the fabric at the zipper are a little frayed and sometimes get in the way of the smooth functioning of the zipper. Large white nets in the side yard are not the most visually appealing, but it’s worth it to get to harvest blueberries.
